Pedal Module
Industrial-grade presence and removal detection module using a spring-loaded pedal mechanism and magnetic sensing mechanism to confirm whether critical assets are correctly positioned in their housing. Designed for long-term deployment in outdoor and infrastructure environments, and built on the IoT Pro hardware architecture.
Product Code: IOTPRO-PEDAL-MODULE
Product Overview
The IoT Pro Pedal Module is a spring-loaded presence detection device designed to confirm whether a critical item is correctly placed inside its housing, bracket, or storage location.
The module detects pedal open/close state based on applied weight or mechanical pressure through magnetic sensing. With a typical activation threshold of approximately 750 grams, the system can reliably confirm placement and generate an alert if the asset is missing, displaced, or removed.
This is particularly effective for public safety and infrastructure equipment, where missing equipment can lead to serious consequences and where manual inspection is inefficient. Real-world deployments include monitoring the presence of ring buoys in lifebuoy housings, where the pedal provides a simple and robust way to confirm that safety equipment is in place.

From a system architecture perspective, the device functions as a presence confirmation and tamper/event acquisition node, providing deterministic, low-power, long-term monitoring for assets where physical checks are difficult and reliability is critical.
Typical Installation Points
The IoT Pro Pedal Module is typically installed wherever an item must remain in a defined “parked” position, and where confirming presence is critical for safety, compliance, or operational readiness.

Lifebuoy / Ring Buoy Presence Monitoring (Inside Housing)
In this configuration , the pedal module is installed at the bottom of the ring buoy housing, with the ring buoy resting on the pedal:
-
When the ring buoy is in place, its weight closes the pedal (presence confirmed)
-
When the ring buoy is removed, the pedal returns to its default position (absence event)
This enables automatic confirmation that ring buoys are present and ready, without manual inspections.

Lifebuoy / Ring Buoy Presence Monitoring (External / Inverted Logic)
In this configuration, the pedal is on the outside of the housing due to nature of the ring buoy housing, so that:
-
When the ring buoy is in place, it opens the pedal
-
When the ring buoy is removed, it returns to the alternate state
This “inverted logic” approach can be useful depending on cabinet geometry, mounting constraints, or the preferred default state for alarm logic.

Public Safety Equipment Presence Monitoring
The same mechanism is suitable wherever an item’s weight or mechanical pressure can confirm presence—ensuring asset availability, loss detection, and service readiness across public safety, commercial, and industrial environments.

Measurement & Sensing Capabilities
The IoT Pro Pedal Module focuses on high-reliability presence and removal detection using a spring-loaded pedal state coupled up with magnetic detection.

Pedal Open / Close State Detection
The module detects:
-
Asset present (pedal actuated by weight/pressure)
-
Asset removed (pedal returns to default)
Pedal events can be time-stamped and used to trigger alerts for missing safety equipment, tampering, or non-compliance, supporting exception-based monitoring in public and industrial deployments.
The spring strength can be tuned depending on the target asset weight and mounting method, but the default design assumes approximately 750 g activation.
